RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Wears prescribed safety equipment at all times while working in the plant.
  • Operates Havens or Saws per schedule and to shop copy quality and quantity instructions.
  • Operates Havens or Saws to required production (quote) rates.    Must inform Supervisor or Team Leader if machine is unable to perform to required rates.  
  • Directs Recutting Material Handler and in the Packaging of tube and ensures packages are packaged neatly and to prescribed packaging safety standards.
  • Works with Recutting Material Handler to ensure all finished bundles are properly identified (tagged) and to ensure that the proper (correct) material is being used
  • Informs Recutting Material Handler of needed packaging skids, carts, and banding supplies in advance of running scheduled shop copies.
  • Informs Crane Operator of needed Work In Process (WIP) for current and future orders
  • Operate forklift or overhead crane to move packaged material or scrap bins to designated storage or staging location as may be necessary. 
  • Monitoring tube quality as called out for in shop copies and then recording inspection findings on T & B inspection reports.
  • Maintains a clean work area by performing required clean up tasks during and at the end of the work shift.
    • Is trained in and adheres to T&B Tube's Quality Policy, Company Rules, and Safety Policy.
    • Performs work duties with a high sense of urgency that assists recutting crews in minimizing downtime and running products to prescribed run rates.
    • Informs Team Coordinator (Supervisor), Team Leader, or Maintenance Department of any safety, housekeeping, or maintenance issues that need attention. 
    • Helps train new employees in the Recutting Operator position
    • As time permits, cross-trains with Recutting Operators (both Havens and Bewo Saws) to learn the job and be prepared for absences or career growth with future position openings. 

Description:

  • Packaging tubing and verifying piece counts as product comes off of the mill
  • Properly identifying and tagging (labeling) finished product bundles 
  • Making sure your coworkers have the materials they need to run their areas of the shop
  • Assisting with mill changeovers by changing out roll tooling, cutoff dies, etc.

  • Ensures all paperwork such as downtime reports, production reports, and slit coil usage is correctly filled out and turned in at the end of the shift
  • Accesses Vantage system to record production information required for
  • Ensures correct raw material is being used
  • Ensures that all raw material inventory (used or returned) is adjusted daily
  • Performs and records quality checks including but not limited to weld quality, OD and ID scarfing quality, gauge tolerance, surface quality, length tolerance, plug or ring gauge tolerance, straightness, twist, and end cut quality or other checks as may be required by the shop copy or from direction of the Team Coordinator (Supervisor) or Quality Manager. 
  • Performs necessary adjustments as may be required to correct out of spec conditions such as weld quality, OD tolerance, ID tolerance, bowed tube, twist, end cut quality, surface quality defects.  
  • Directs and leads all crew members (Cutoff Operators, End Welders, and Mill Helpers) for the execution of mill changeovers such as changing out roll tooling, cutoff dies, etc. in the allotted amount of time. 
  • Directs and leads the Cutoff Operator, End Welder, and Mill Helpers for execution of the schedule, running product to required production (quoted) rates, customer quality requirements, and order quantities while keeping downtime and scrap to a minimum 
  • Performs the set-up duties during changeovers, gauge changes, product changes, or steel changes to ensure product meets all requirements as specified in the shop copies. 
  • Leads and assists entire mill team crew in the event of a fold up or breakdown that requires the participation of all employees
  • Maintains a clean work area by cleaning up work area during and at the end of the work shift.

Description:

Our Recut Material Handler position operates forklifts and overhead cranes to keep our cutting machines/saws fed with material to be further processed. We cross-train our employees to allow for higher skill set and the opportunity to be promoted.

Promotions in our Recut dept. often involve becoming a Saw Operator. Our 3rd shift has a shift differential as well, and we post job openings internally, allowing for a change of shift and further promotion.

Our End Welder

  • uses a semi-assist TIG welding process to connect steel coils for a continuous feed of raw material to the Tube Mill.
  • Loads coils using an overhead crane (remote control) onto a de-coiler/payoff wheel.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Wears prescribed safety equipment at all times while working in the plant.
  • Follows direction of Mill Operator or Team Coordinator (Supervisor) to obtain and stage slit coils to be used per posted schedule.
  • Direct responsibility for the proper MANUAL tagging of all returned partial or quality reject slit coils.   Direction on coil status could come from Mill Operator, Team Coordinator, or Quality Assurance. 
  • Prepares end welder work area at start of shift by ensuring supplies of slit coils ,  packaging supplies (partial coil banding), welding supplies (argon gas, torch parts, torch tips, etc.) are available to execute the schedule without causing delays.
  • Directs Coil Material Handler on slit coils needed from warehouse to complete the shift’s schedule in advance of running scheduled shop copies per direction of Mill Operator or Team Coordinator (Supervisor)
  • Executes the end welding process by loading coils to be used on the payoff wheel, rotating payoff wheel, and joining ends of coils together using the TIG welding process.  End welds must be completed in such a time as to not shut down the tube mill due to the emptying of the accumulator. 
  • Inspects quality of end weld prior to running it into the accumulator
  • Walks the end weld down the length of the mill to ensure it is removed from the cutoff runout table and placed in the scrap hopper.  
  • Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots Strip Accumulator (Floop or Horizontal)
  • Replaces or repairs torches and exchanges Argon gas cylinders as may be required.  
  • Ensures gas cylinders are stored and secured in a SAFE location
  • Trained in the use of a gauge micrometer, calipers, and tape measures.
  • Performs and records quality checks including but not limited to slit coil incoming gauge and surface quality or other checks as may be required by the shop copy or from direction of Mill Operator.    
  • Informs Mill Operator of out of spec conditions as they occur. 
  • Assists on mill changeovers by changing out roll tooling, cutoff dies, etc. as may be required per instruction of Mill Operator, or Team Coordinator (Supervisor)
  • Operate forklift or overhead crane to load slit coils on payoff wheel, move coils to loading area, or remove scrap hoppers (or scrap bundles) as they become full. 
  • Assists entire mill team crew in the event of a fold up or breakdown that requires the participation of all employees
  • Maintains a clean work area by cleaning up work area during and at the end of the work shift.
    • Is trained in and adheres to T & B Tube’s Quality policy, Company Rules, and Safety policy.  
    • Performs work duties with a high sense of urgency that assists mill crews in minimizing downtime, scrap, quality rejects, and running products to prescribed production rates
