The result is a tube that retains all the mechanical properties of hot rolled steel — strength, toughness, ease of welding and machining — but with a significantly cleaner, more uniform surface. That surface matters in applications where paint, powder coat, or other coatings need to bond consistently and where visual appearance is part of the finished product.

1. Hot Rolling: Flat steel is heated above its recrystallization point and progressively rolled into tube form at high temperatures. This produces the shape and structural properties needed for demanding applications.
2. Scale Formation: As the tube cools, oxygen and water vapor react with the surface to form iron oxide — the gray-black scale characteristic of standard hot rolled products. Left in place, scale creates adhesion problems and can accelerate corrosion.
3. Pickling: The tube passes through an acid bath that dissolves the scale layer without compromising the underlying steel. The acid concentration and exposure time are controlled to achieve a clean surface without over-etching.
4. Rinsing and Drying: After pickling, the tube is thoroughly rinsed to remove acid residue and then dried to prepare the surface for oiling.
5. Oiling: A light, fast-drying oil is applied across the surface. This thin protective layer prevents rust from forming during storage, handling, and shipping. It is typically removed as part of standard cleaning or pre-treatment before painting or coating.
