Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled (P&O). Hot rolled steel that is run through an acid bath (pickling) in order to remove the surface scale. Oil is then applied to prevent the surface from rusting.
T&B Tube supplies hot rolled pickled and oiled steel tubing in an assortment of sizes, wall thicknesses, and finishes. This tubing type is produced per ASTM A513 requirements, unless otherwise stated, from flat steel progressively rolled into a finished size and shape.
What’s Hot Rolled P&O Steel Tubing?
Scale develops when hot rolled steel products come into contact with oxygen and water vapor after the forming process. What starts out as a protectant can become rust, which degrades performance and longevity.
Hot rolled pickled and oiled steel tubing, or HRPO steel tubing, has had the scale removed and an oily coating added. An acid bath eliminates scale that may form on the surface of the steel as it cools. A fast-drying oil is applied to the steel surface afterward, preventing rust formation.
