What Is Hot Rolled Steel Tubing?
Hot rolled tubing is formed by rolling flat steel strip at temperatures above the steel's recrystallization point, typically over 1,000°F. At that temperature, the steel is highly malleable, allowing it to be shaped and sized with less internal stress than cold-worked alternatives. The result is a tough, cost-effective tube well suited to structural, fabricated, and industrial applications.
Because the steel cools after forming, some dimensional variation and surface scale are inherent to the process. When a cleaner surface is required, T&B Tube also supplies hot rolled pickled and oiled (P&O) steel tubing, which removes scale and applies a light oil coating to prevent rust.

Hot rolled P&O tube starts as standard hot rolled tube and is then run through an acid bath to remove surface scale, followed by a light oil coating to prevent rust. It offers the same structural properties as standard hot rolled tube with a cleaner surface suitable for painting, coating, or applications where scale contamination is a concern.
